So I arrived in Venice around 20:30. I was already a little nervous, because I was told that Venice is one of the hardest cities to navigate...and I learned that to be true. I got off my train, and started following my directions to my hostel, but realized that was not going to be easy, and it was starting to get dark. In short, I forked out the seven euros to take the water taxi (yeah, I know, a ridiculous price). My first impressions of Venice were nothing short of beautiful, though, and despite my nervousness in finding my hostel, I was enjoying the scenery. When it was my stop on the water taxi (literally, a boat that travels along the canal stopping at points throughout the city), I got off and just wandered through the streets until I found my hostel. I still have no idea how I found it...a lot of luck I guess! When I got to my room, the two girls I was sharing it with were already sleeping, so I went straight to bed.
I woke up the next morning feeling refreshed and ready for a day of exploration! I decided to spend the day with the two other people in my room. One of them was an older woman from London and another was a young Canadian girl who had just traveled through Asia and was recently accepted into med school, so you can imagine we had lots to talk about during the day! The three of us had a great time getting lost in the narrow alleyways and exploring all this amazing city had to offer. We did lots of shopping and eating, but we also had time to relax by the water and enjoy the view. Venice is an amazing city and was a nice break from the regular metropolitans I’ve been visiting. The cliché gondolas and multicolored buildings lining the water do not disappoint. We had a full day of fun, and I was sad to leave. But eventually, night came, and it was time for me to catch my train to Florence! My time in Italy was going by way too quickly!
